PROJECT INFORMATION | Modernization of Myanmar's irrigation infrastructure nationwide, improving water delivery efficiency and reliability to increase agricultural productivity and crop yields. Canal and Channel Rehabilitation Repair and upgrade existing irrigation canals and channels to reduce water loss through seepage adn improve flow control. Use concrete lining and improved gates where appropriate. Installation of Modern Water Control Structures Install automated or manually operated gates, regulators, and pumps to enable better distribution and scheduling of water supply to farms. Expansion of Irrigation Coverage Construct new small-scale irrigation facilities to increase the total irrigated area, targeting under-served agricultural zones. Drainage System Improvements Upgrade drainage infrastructure to prevent waterlogging and salinity issues, enhancing soil health and crop resilience. Capacity Building and Farmer Training Provide technical training to irrigation managers and farmers on water management, system operation, and maintenance to maximize benefits. It is expected this project will increase irrigated land area in the nation by roughly 15% and improve crop yields by roughly 25%. Through 3 phases, this project will take 10 months. |
