PROJECT INFORMATION | The United States Light House Service would allocate $5-million to the restoration and preservation of Boston Light. Special measures would be taken to ensure that the light tower and keeper's quarters were preserved as close as possible to what they were originally intended to be, though modern amenities would be added to the keeper's quarters on the island. Restoration and preservation to the tower itself would include the installation of new glass - of the same caliber being presently used - as well as a full cleaning of the tower. Special attention would be given to the gears and mechanisms used to turn the lens, and the lens itself would also be given a careful inspection. New diesel generators were brought to the island, and incased with soundproofing, in order to provide back up power to the island and its facilities including the Coast Guard station on it. Finally, by order of the Commissioner of Lighthouses, a flagpole was erected on the island to fly the American flag and Pennant of the U.S.L.H.S. |
