PROJECT INFORMATION | The United States Light House Service would allocate $4-million to the restoration and preservation of Minots Ledge Light, located near Boston Harbor. Special measures would be taken to ensure that the light tower and keeper's quarters - located off-site - were brought to modern standards but were preserved as best as possible to what they originally were. Modern amenities and safety features were added to both the tower and the keeper's quarters. The tower would now have a radio, television, and temporary living and storage quarters (because no permanent living would be done within the tower itself). The light would be a third-order Fresnel lens. Measures would be taken to permanently power the lighthouse, even though it was isolated in the middle of the sea. A lightning rod was installed at the top of the tower and the interior and exterior were painted and maintained as needed. |
