PREMIER OF TASMANIA |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: PROTECTED (Encrypted) |
6 September 1999 |
Dear Mr. Naftali Bennett and Mr. Mesut Yilmaz, I would like to reach out to you both, as ultimately a third-party in your conflict, to hold a peace summit in Hobart, Tasmania. I have not brought this up with the Federal Government and I do not intend to. As a Premier of a state of Australia I have the unique privilege of approving visa's for people deemed sponsored by the state government. As such I sponsor you both to come to Tasmania and essentially by pass the federal government's border controls. It is ultimately my perogative if I wish to invite world leaders to Tasmania and they do not have any say over it, just over immigration issues which I can easily sort out with the privileges afforded to me. The official host venue will be Government House in Hobart, where you will be welcomed by the Governor of Tasmania. It is my desire to see a peaceful settlement in the Middle East and to stop the bloodshed of many people, ultimately some may be Tasmanians serving in the Australian Defence Force. Yours sincerely, The Honourable Jim Bacon, MP. |
