To: <Sam Salamanca, President of the Republic of Brazil> Sam Salamanca From: <Sarabun@gov.mail.go.th> Subject: On the Recent Transition of Power in Brazil Security Type: NSST Architecture 1.5 | Secret and Encrypted |
President Salamanca,
The Socialist Republic of Thailand has observed the sudden and sensational changes currently happening in the Republic of Brazil during your tenure. We are well aware of the power you currently exercise.
The bases of authority built on putting democratic mechanisms in abeyance and destroying democratically elected institutions are entirely distinct from what we have grown to accept. The only foundation for actual legitimacy, the type that creates substantial enduringness and genuine respect, is the spontaneous will of the people, a universal concept neither limited to national boundaries nor political forms. It cannot be rewarded by decree, nor maintained ad infinitum through the use of emergency powers or the suppression of dissent.
President Salamanca, the course you've taken circumvents the Brazilian people's proper role in their destiny. While order is an avowed goal, experience has also shown that order imposed against one's will but based on popular sovereignty and guarantees of fundamental human rights is inherently unstable. Undermining the political aspirations and inalienable rights of your people doesn't eliminate social contradictions; it simply prevents them from surfacing in the future, at times in more dangerous forms.
Nowadays, our own interests are no weaker than theirs. Their freedom of speech, their right to self-determination, and their right to take part in national governance are not sacrifices to be made on grounds of expediency. They are the pillars of any respectable society and the very essence of human dignity. Too often, the story of a "necessary reset" comes before the fundamental dignity being erased.
Leadership is a serious responsibility. Whatever you decide to do now, your leadership will lead Brazil's future action for many years to come. The power of the nation is actually measured not by concentrating power in one individual but by empowerment, freedom, and happiness of the people. We implore you to consider the long-term effects of the rule pursued by the breach of democratic norms and elementary human rights.
The Socialist Republic of Thailand stands strong in solidarity with the people of Brazil in their aspiration to gain justice, equality, and self-determination.
