To the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Ethiopia,

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Thailand conveys its highest regards to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. It is with great honor that the Ministry expresses the Thai Government's intention to cultivate a bilateral partnership that transcends political affiliations, fostering shared progress rooted in mutual respect and equality.

Thailand deeply values Ethiopia's steadfast commitment to neutrality in its foreign policy, recognizing it as a foundation for pragmatic and principled engagement. Inspired by this alignment, Thailand envisions a collaborative relationship that emphasizes shared dignity, sustainable development, and the well-being of both nations' peoples. We believe there exist numerous opportunities for our countries to explore innovative avenues of cooperation that promise enduring mutual benefits.

To initiate this vital dialogue, Thailand proposes dispatching a diplomatic delegation led by Director-General Busadee Santipitak of the Department of African Affairs. This delegation seeks to engage in transparent and comprehensive discussions with Ethiopian representatives. Given our shared emphasis on public infrastructure investment—an area where Thailand takes inspiration from Ethiopia’s remarkable achievements—we are confident that this exchange will deepen our collective vision for progress and prosperity.

We eagerly await your favorable response and the opportunity to advance our nations' shared aspirations.

Sincerely,

Busadee Santipitak
Director-General
Department of African Affairs
Republic of Thailand

Re: Thai Ethiopian Relations
We would llike to start by conveying our nations admiration towards the progress that the Republic of Thailand has made in terms of economical and political power, both internally as well as on the international scene, one that should be an example for fellow developing economies.

It is our understanding that there are multiple matters of mutual interest that we might be able to address jointly, and therefore see a first bilateral conference between high level thai and ethiopian authorities of high interest.

We are open to receive your delegation at your convenience here in Addis Ababa and await your logistical details.

Respectfully,

Demeke Mekonnen
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Director-General Busadee Santipitak of the Department of African Affairs had just concluded a communal dinner with her family and local community members when her personal assistant messaged her—it was time to head to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Smiling, she excused herself and boarded an electric bus to the nearby metro station, carrying her personal belongings. The journey, whether by road or rail, unfolded in serene harmony. Modern urban life wove seamlessly with verdant landscapes, creating a scene of quiet splendor. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the city buzzed with a quiet vibrancy, its artificial lights blending with the fading twilight. Immersed in the view, she was gently nudged back to reality by a member of her delegation. “It’s time,” they reminded her. Together, they boarded a chartered Airbus A350-900. At 9:30 PM local time, the flight began its estimated eight-hour journey to Bole Addis Ababa International Airport, scheduled to land by 10:00 AM local time on August 1, 2005.
