Director-General Busadee Santipitak of the Department of African Affairs had just concluded a communal dinner with her family and local community members when her personal assistant messaged her—it was time to head to Suvarnabhumi Airport. Smiling, she excused herself and boarded an electric bus to the nearby metro station, carrying her personal belongings. The journey, whether by road or rail, unfolded in serene harmony. Modern urban life wove seamlessly with verdant landscapes, creating a scene of quiet splendor. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the city buzzed with a quiet vibrancy, its artificial lights blending with the fading twilight. Immersed in the view, she was gently nudged back to reality by a member of her delegation. “It’s time,” they reminded her. Together, they boarded a chartered Airbus A350-900. At 9:30 PM local time, the flight began its estimated eight-hour journey to Bole Addis Ababa International Airport, scheduled to land by 10:00 AM local time on August 1, 2005.

The logistical information regarding the composition and arrival of the thai delegation would be received and forwarded to the protocool office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to have everyhting prepared and ready. The Foreign Minister would indicate his deputy to prepare a similarly sized and composed delegation on the ethiopian side, led by himself.

The Deputy MoFA would also be waiting at the Airpot to receive the thai delegation and lead them towards their previously arrange transportations.

Everything would be ready the next morning in the Ministry to receive the all thai delegates.

It was neither restful nor forgiving—a mix of weary obligation and impending duties shared by her delegation. Before she could fully gather herself, Pang appeared at her side, moving briskly, her makeup meticulously applied despite a slightly mismatched foundation tone. “Stop staring at my face, Comrade Busadee,” she quipped, holding up a compact mirror with one hand while adjusting her jacket with the other. “Do yours already. We’ll be landing soon.” Her tone carried a reluctant playfulness, but her movements were all business. Busadee sighed and reached for her makeup bag, watching Pang stride away with purpose, leaving a faint scent of perfume in her wake.

Landing at Bole Addis Ababa International Airport highlighted both the precision of the chartered Airbus A350-900 and Ethiopia’s capability to host high-profile foreign dignitaries. Onboard, however, last-minute coordination with local authorities was intense, with interpreters working tirelessly to bridge language gaps where English wasn’t preferred. Despite the chaos, the Thai delegation emerged poised. The first wave of coordinators and the media team disembarked, their composure giving no hint of the earlier scramble. Once communication was smoothly established, Director-General Busadee stepped off the aircraft alongside senior officials to greet the Ethiopian Deputy Foreign Minister. The Thai officials, resplendent in formal national costumes, wore intricate brooches featuring a red rose above a golden hammer and sickle, catching the sunlight. Acknowledging Ethiopia’s hospitality, they welcomed a rare day of rest—an accommodation for which they were genuinely grateful, given how most foreign visits would go straight to the meeting rooms.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs would again act as welcome comitee at the entrance of the Ministry. he would warmly welcome the delegation and accompany them to the meeting rooms where the event was ging to take place.

There, The Minister of Foreign Affairs would be waiting for them, and after some brief introductions he would invite them to take a seat around the big big, accompanied by some aides and the Director of Asian Affairs and the Deputy himself.

"Director Santipitak, let me begin by expression our admiration towards what Thailand ahs achieved in such a short period in terms of their international relevance. Your nations tuly became a global power through intense diplomatic and political actions, without disregarding your people's needs and interests. Your case is an example for many nations.

We are always happy, within the framework of our neutrality foreign policy, to mantain mature bilateral relations with all possible nations.

We would be very interested in hearing a little bit about Thailand's short term foreign policy goals and objectives, specially their opinion on the current state of regional affairs."

In the meeting room, after the opening remarks, Director-General Busadee and her delegation exchanged warm smiles as Ethiopian Foreign Minister Mekonnen offered generous praise. Your country stands as an inspiration, particularly in establishing world-class public infrastructure. While Thailand has invested over $63 billion in national projects since our republic’s founding in 1998, Ethiopia’s ability to translate public spending into tangible economic progress is extraordinary. We admire your leadership in modernizing railway networks—a model we have studied with great respect.” She said with a sincere smile, her admiration evident in her tone.

“Thailand profoundly respects Ethiopia’s neutral foreign policy, which serves as a stabilizing force in Africa amidst a shifting international landscape. We are committed to fostering a strong and lasting relationship within this framework.” Busadee’s tone was steady as she offered her reassurance, then continued. “Thailand’s foreign policy, both in the short and long term, is guided by three steadfast pillars established alongside our Republic. We strive for a better world, representing the voices of nations seeking a just, fair, and democratic global order. In practice, we engage all nations as equals, uphold comprehensive and transparent dialogue, and aim to enhance bilateral relations for the benefit of humanity as a whole. Contrary to mainstream belief, we see humans as inherently cooperative and kind. Traits like selfishness and opportunism are products of inequality, not nature. When humans face a world defined by starvation or unfulfilling work, they adapt to survive, often individually. Yet, it is in moments of crisis that our true nature emerges. Consider a soldier, huddled in a bunker on a frigid winter night, sharing his last blanket with another. Enemies become allies when united by desperation. These moments reveal humanity’s deep empathy and communal spirit, even under the harshest circumstances. This belief is central to Thailand’s approach to international cooperation.” Busadee’s voice carried a quiet conviction, her passion restrained but unmistakable.

“When it comes to regional affairs, many events unfold across the world simultaneously. I presume, Minister Mekonnen, that you are referring to the recent explosion near Egypt’s southern coastline,” she began with humility, her tone shifting to a more contemplative cadence. “Recalling the Foreign Ministry’s statement, Thailand unequivocally condemns any actions that destabilize peace and security. While it is no secret that relations between Egypt and Thailand have long been strained—largely due to Egypt’s ongoing violations of international and customary law, and its disregard for Thailand’s sovereign rights—we cannot condone acts of terrorism. Our government reaffirms its stance, urging the international community to conduct a swift, comprehensive, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts and ensure accountability. Should the Egyptian government seek our assistance, Thailand stands ready to provide support.” She paused briefly, her gaze steady, before continuing. “How does this unwarranted attack impact Ethiopia, Minister Mekonnen, and what plans does your government have to address such an incident?”
