Less than a week had passed since Director-General Panthipha Iamsuttha Ekarohit of the European Affairs Department returned from the Republic of Ukraine after signing a new friendship treaty between both governments. Panthipha and her team were on a tight schedule, and they immediately discussed Thailand’s agendas with Russia when they landed in Bangkok. Eventually, the chartered Thai Airways A330-300 airplane would take off from Suvarnabhumi Airport, traveling toward Sheremetyevo International Airport. During the flight, the Thai delegation enjoyed leisure activities and relaxation as part of their work-life balance routine. The plane would arrive at ten in the morning local time. If there were to be any national anthems playing, “The Internationale” was Thailand’s national anthem.

Russia and Thailand had a complex relationship history, which the Thai delegation knew well. Although the countries’ alliance traced back to their monarchies, their bilateral cooperation had gone cold in recent years. Panthipha’s goal, as mandated by her department’s internal democratic council, was to normalize Thailand’s relationship with Russia. This visit pursued mutual interests and renewed trust, seeking reciprocal prosperity for the Thai and Russian people. A constructive, transparent, and comprehensive collaboration was Thailand’s aim, and the Thai delegation would arrive at the negotiation table with hearts full of openness and concessions. The new chapter had only just begun.
