Secretary of State Jackson Fitzgerald arrived via a private, government-chartered flight. Seventeen Secret Service Agents, who were acting on behalf of the Department of State, travelled with the Secretary of State, his wife, and their driver. Ten of these armed agents would stay behind with the aircraft to protect and watch over it. Three vehicles that were normally used for the American Ambassador in Thailand would instead be used to bring the American delegation, plus the American ambassador, to the funeral. One of the drivers, from the Department of State, would drive the ambassador's vehicle that would drive around the VIPs, while two embassy officials would drive the lead and follow vehicles for the small motorcade. Each agent was armed with 9mm Glock pistols, as well as six extra loaded clips that they carried on their persons.
The American delegation was taken to the American embassy in Bangkok where they prepared for the funeral. Meanwhile, word was securely sent to the Rattanakosin Foreign Ministry to alert them that Secretary Fitzgerald and the American delegation had arrived and were ready to go to the funeral. The message went on to say that once they were given further direction, the Secretary's protective detail would drive him to the funeral. Finally, it was requested that Rattanakosin police would provide an escort for the Secretary of State's motorcade as they travelled throughout Bangkok.
