Operation Overview

---

The "Atlântico" Joint Exercise is an initiative created by the Navies of the Empire of Brazil and the Parliamentary Monarchy of Portugal for closer cooperation in the future. the Joint Exercise will be separated into two phases. Phase I would be a dedicated Wargame between the leadership of both fleets. Phase II would be dedicated to fire exercises and standard training.

The Exercise's aim is to increase the cooperation between both fleets, and to train the Personnel on their assigned positions during combat.

The AIB Minas Gerais would lead the Fleet, Its Anti-Aircraft Guns would be loaded, the AMX-A1Bs would be loaded onto the carrier, alongside supplies and ammo, Admiral Diego Costa da Silva being on board the vessel. The AIB Rio Grande do Sul Destroyer would be in-front of the Carrier, fully equipped with its anti-ship missiles, the twin 130 mm (5 in) gun mounts and 37 mm (1.5 in) anti-aircraft guns being loaded,on both sides following the Destroyer, were the AIB Bahia and AIB Maranhão frigates were fully equipped with torpedoes and ammunition for their 76mm cannons, as well as ammunition for their 12.7mm, 20mm and 40mm/70mm anti-aircraft guns, both ships' sensors and long-range, surface and search radars, as well as sonars, would all be activate and running for the trip. between the Carrier's back, was the AIB Rio Grande do Norte and the AIB Ceará with their Anti Ship and Anti Missiles being fully loaded, along with their Naval guns and their Anti-Aircraft Auto-cannons. The ships would also have their torpedoe launchers loaded, along with their anti-submarine rocket launchers. In between the two Frigates was the AIB Almirante Gastão Motta, filled with supplies and ammunition for the voyage. The AIB Acré, AIB Rio Grande do Norte, AIB Santa Catarina and the AIB Roraima would be put in a position forming a square around the fleet, their Anti Air and Anti Ship Missiles would be online and loaded, along with their torpedo launchers. All vessels were fully crewed for the trip.

The Fleet would depart from Rio de Janeiro Naval Base, Planning to Group with the Portuguese fleet.

A Document with the Information of the Exercise would be sent to the Portuguese Navy Command through Encrypted channels.

After securing the document, Marquinhos Carneiro, the chief of staff of the Navy, would forward it to his secretary, who promptly sent it to the Naval council for the immediate deployment of the already planned event. Similar to the Brazilians, they would send in their version of deployment securely. The selected ship's crew would be briefed of the situation and were told to make ready for their maiden voyage.

The Following Ships and their complements would be alerted to the Naval Excercise, with support crews checking the armament, supplies, and fuel of the ships. After each were deemed ship-shape and ready to go, the crews would be briefed of the exercise and would be sent out to the open sea. It was early in the morning, as the Naval Council deemed that they would stop at the Azores for further instructions. Once they would arrive at the port of Ponta Delgada, they would securely relay their location to their Brazilian Counterparts, and ask for a specific area in where the excercise would take place.

Crews were eager to join in on their ships on their maiden voyage. Out of the entire fleet, only the Frigate José Malhoa had seen any real action other than being in port. The captains of each ship surveying the open seas in the comfort of their vessel's bridge. Some sailors were on the main deck, adoring the smell of salty sea water. Soon, they have arrived at their initial destination, just in time for the sunrise. Citizens in the Azores were unaware of the naval exercise, and some avid ship spotters quickly made their way to the port to take pictures.

Upon receiving the response of the Portuguese, The Imperial Fleet departed from the Port, to the Amusement of many bystanders as they watched the Minas Gerais departing from Guanabara Bay.

The Fleet would take the route towards the Azores (GG > HG > HH > HI > HJ > HK > HL > HM)

The Crew within the Majority of the vessels were excited, as it was their maiden voyage, especially on the Minas Gerais, The Imperial Flag softly flew against the wind, The crew being allowed to sing and listen to music during the travel to raise morale, the journey had began.

The Portuguese would remain at the port until their Brazilian allies would arrive. Some of the ship's crews would be allowed to spend their time in Ponta Delgada, where young sailors swooned over the local women. Nonetheless, the ships were at the ready once the Brazilians arrive, and were fully supplied as dock crews tend to the ships. Officers on deck would review their possible tactics, and knowing that they were heavily outnumbered, had to come up with creative solutions on hand.

It was almost noon, as all sailors were ordered to report to their positions. The fleet would attempt to make contact with the Brazilians when they're close enough.

The Brazilians would remain in course (GG > HG > HH > HI > HJ > HK > HL > HM), within the second day of Operation, the Fleet would slow down to allow for the Replenishment and Refueling of its ships

Upon finishing, the Fleet would continue in full speed towards their destination, the Brazilians would notify the Portuguese of their imminent arrival in an estimate of 24 hours time.

The third day of operations was quite uneventful, soon, as the Brazilian Fleet arrived, they'd contact the Portuguese fleet of their arrival, the Brazilian ships could be seen in the horizon, approaching the Portuguese.

The Brazilian Sailors would come out onto the decks of the ships, saluting and greeting their Portuguese allies, Admiral Diego Costa would contact the Portuguese Admiral

"Greetings Mr Silva! Sorry to keep you waiting, I hope the weather has been pleasant these days?"

He'd chuckle, the Minas Gerais would blow its horns to the Civilians in the Islands as they watched on, on the deck, the new AMX-A1Bs were sitting with their brand new Grey Paint jobs, with the Naval crest on their tail.

"Clear as the day thankfully, we're honored to have our allies here."

The Admiral would radio back. Men were quickly briefed of the situation, and what was going to unfold in a few hours' time. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, as most days these men were stuck on maintenance on the ship and patrols around Lisbon. Now that they had given the opportunity to live out what a Portuguese Naval Sailor was, they jumped at the opportunity. The Ship captains would eagerly hold up their binoculars to spot the incoming Brazilians, surveying the various armaments and equipment they had deployed.

"I believe we may initiate the training with a session of War gaming, then once that is over, we can move on to fire exercises and standard training."

The Fleet would take the opportunity to dock to refill and replenish the ships and the Crew, the AIB Minas Gerais Docking close to the NSM José Malhoa, Admiral Florencio Silva would be invited to come aboard the Minas Gerais, the Carrier's crew would stand in attention, awaiting the arrival of the Portuguese staff, Admiral Diego Costa da Silva was present as well, with the rest of the Carrier's staff with him.

The Portuguese ships would leave port, the officers on the bridge deciding what tactics to use against the Brazilians. They would head to roughly 100nmi away from the port towards the southeast of the Azores. The Brazilians would be allowed to dock to the port and refuel and restock on supplies as needed. The Portuguese fleet would have a traditional formation, the NSM José Malhoa at the center, with a frigate and a support ship covering the front and likewise on the rear.

A scenario would be suggested to the Brazilians, by the Admiral: wherein the Brazilian fleet would be near the port to simulate an invasion, with Portuguese ships being the first responders. The goal for the Brazilians is to keep hold of the port, and not suffer massive casualties, while the goals for the Portuguese is to buy time for help to arrive. The estimated time for reinforcements is roughly 12 hours, giving both sides ample time to 'duke it out.'

Once the scenario is over, both forces can sail West of the Azores to start the firing drills and exercises.

The Brazilian ships would position themselves in a spread out manner.

The ships would be fully supplied, getting on position, the crew of the ships preparing to arm all of the weapons for the incoming attack, the ships would use their radars and sonars to attempt and locate the enemy fleet.

Meanwhile in the AIB Minas Gerais, Pilots of 1st and 2nd Squadrons would run to their aircraft, preparations for take off would commence as the aircraft would arm themselves with. Once properly armed, the aircraft would be positioned for take off, some of the crew on the ship would stop to see their first take off.

Once ready, the Pilots gave the crew a thumbs up before one by one, they took off from the carrier's deck, their speed fluttering the Imperial Brazilian Flag on the ship's mast.

The crew on deck cheered on as they witnessed the first launch of the AMX A1-B From the Carrier.

1st Squadron "Alpha" and 2nd Squadron "Delta" would fly up to the appropriate height for their Aircraft, before flying towards their destination, the island of São Miguel.

The Portuguese Fleet, after being informed that the Brazilians are ready for the exercise to begin, would start making their way to the Island of Santa Maria. The entire fleet would be moving slowly, checking their radars every now and then. Sailors were itching for a fight as officers were careful with their movements. The plan was simple: defeat in detail. While the Brazilians had the advantage of numbers on their side, through concentrating firepower on individual ships, they could slowly wither away their adversaries. Once signs that they would be outnumbered would arise, they would begin retreating and regrouping to jump at the next opportunity.

Crewmen within the Sa'ar 4.5 Missile Boat would alert their superiors as the weapons system detected a possible target at around 160km. The Admiral would be notified of the possible hostile ship, and the order was given to reduce speed to 1/3. Efforts would be made to slowly encroach on the detected vessel, and at around 15km, a Harpoon missile from NSM Atum would be 'fired.' The Fleet would then go flanking speed to close-in around 8km for the corvette NSM Baptista de Andrade to release torpedoes. Another Harpoon missile from NSM Carapau would be 'fired' at around the same time.

The Wargame GM would relay this to the Brazilians, within reasonable and realistic time in regards to an actual attack, for them to react accordingly.

The AIB Roraima would use its Surface to Air Barak 1 surface-to-air Missiles to "shoot down" the Portuguese Harpoon Missiles, launching 6 of them with 3 of them targeting the missile fired from the NSM Atum and 3 targeting the one fired from the NSM Carapau, the ship, which had slowed down, would deploy its AN/SLQ-25 Nixie decoy against the torpedoes.

The attack would alert the rest of the fleet present in the location through their sonars, The AIB Rio Grande do Sul moving to flank the Portuguese fleet from the North, alongside the AIB Ceará and the AIB Santa Catarina, which followed in formation on both sides of the Destroyer.

The AIB Sergipe would approach the AIB Roraima and assist it against the coming attack, launching its anti-ship missiles alongside the AIB Roraima's against the enemy fleet, targeting the NSM Atum and the NSM Carapau.

Meanwhile, the Aircraft of "Alpha" and "Delta" Squadron were approaching the Area, the AIB Acré would be ordered to move forward and shorten its distance to the AIB Roraima.

The attack would be made at a reasonable time, allowing the Portuguese time to respond to the Brazilian Movement.

"All Vessels, Missiles launched, engage CIWS. Repeat, All Vessels, Missiles launched, engage CIWS."

As Portuguese RADAR slowly tracks the incoming missiles, the Close-in Weapons Systems of the 2 Missile boats and the Frigate would burst into life, tracking the incoming missiles. A simulated brrrt (Note: being so close to civilians, blanks would be issued. Crews will still hear the brrrt) would be heard on deck, as the guns hurriedly take down the incoming anti-ship missiles. One missile would almost hit the starboard side of NSM Atum, as the simulated debris plunges deep down into the sea below.

3 more missiles from NSM Carapau would be fired on AIB Roraima, while NSM Atum would prepare it's SAMs in anticipation of the Brazilian Aircraft. RADAR onboard would detect the Brazilian aircraft approaching from the north, and the missile boat's crew would immediately prepare the Barak 1 missiles. When aircraft would reach roughly 12km away from the Portuguese fleet, 2 pairs of missiles would be fired for each plane.

The Portuguese fleet would be ordered flanking speed as they head Northwest. The plan was to identify where the Brazilian flagship was and to relay it to their hypothetical allies. They had to evade from the detection of the Brazilian fleet first, however, as a one-on-one battle would surely defeat them.

The AIB Roraima would use it's Surface-to-Air Missiles against the incoming ones, firing 3 of them against them. as the radars on the Corvette tracked the incoming missiles, the ship's Phalanx CIWS would engage the missiles, opening fire on them.

Meanwhile, the AIB Sergipe would open fire on the NSM Atum, using its 4.5 Inch gun and 1 of its Anti-Ship missiles against it.

The combined formation made up of the AIB Rio Grande do Sul, AIB Ceará and the AIB Santa Catarina moved closer to the Portuguese fleet from the North-East, upon entering the reach of their weapons, the AIB Rio Grande do Sul would fire 4 of its Anti-Ship missiles, 2 of them being targeting the NSM Américo Tomás and the other 2 targeting the NSM Carapau.

The AIB Ceará and the AIB Santa Catarina would join in on the barrage, launching 2 Missiles respectively, one of each targeting the two Portuguese ships, launching 3 missiles in total against both ships.

The Aircraft of "Alpha" and "Delta" Squadrons would approach the Portuguese fleet, "Alpha" Squadron would target the NSM José Malhoa with its Anti-Ship Missiles before quickly turning around to retreat. Meanwhile, the Aircraft of "Delta" Squadron would target the NSM Baptista de Andrade with their own Anti-Ship Missiles, before doing the same as "Alpha" Squadron.

the AIB Acré would intercept the Portuguese fleet in its Radars, the fleet's movement being noted, the encrypted information would be relayed to all other ships in the fleet, the AIB Rio Grande do Norte would be notified to move South-West to bolster the defences.

All information would be made in a reasonable time.

[OOC note: (Due to human error) to clarify, all Portuguese Sa'ar 4.5-class missilbe boats are Aliya-class, negating its use of AA missiles]

Similarly, once Brazilian ships were close enough to the Portuguese fleet, the NSM Baptista de Andrade would open fire with her 100mm gun, possibly deterring the enemy fleet from advancing further, targeting AIB Roraima. All ships were ordered full speed, in a dire attempt to escape their adversaries. Six Gabriel missiles from NSM Carapau and NSM Atum would be fired, 4 directed at AIB Sergipe while two of them would be directed at AIB Roraima. 3 torpedoes, 2 from NSM José Malhoa and one from NSM Baptista de Andrade, would be fired towards AIB Sergipe.

Due to the sheer amount of missiles heading their way, all ships' point defense systems would be activated, trying their best in destroying as many as they can. Due to the tight formation, onboard systems were able to coordinate with one another, leading to a more successful counter. Despite this, however, NSM Américo Tomás and NSM Atum would be struck. NSM Américo Tomás would be hit by the Brazilian Anti-ship missiles from their squadrons, 'wounding' many sailors in the process. The surviving crew would be ordered to abandon ship, effectively neutralizing NSM Américo Tomás from the Wargame.

NSM Atum would be hit not directly, but due to a miscalculation by her Phalanx sensors. An incoming missile would be redirected instead of being destroyed, causing it to detonate 10 meters from her stern. The ship's rudder would be compromised, causing it to turn slower than the rest of the fleet.

Nonetheless, despite the losses, the Portuguese fleet would continue on their vector, moving West in the goal of evading the Brazilians. Soon, the sun would set and the first 6 hours of the event would be over. With the first ship sunk a Portuguese one, it was surely a devastating blow to morale.
